This week we're learning about...

Chinese New Year!
This year the Chinese New Year begins on February 3rd! This week we will be learning all about the traditions that go along with celebrating this holiday. Today we read all about the Chinese New Year, found out what Chinese Zodiac animal we were, and began making a dragon mask.
Here is Amaya ready to celebrate!
Lorenzo is completing his Chinese zodiac profile. He was born in the year of the Rabbit which happens to also be the animal of 2011! Rabbits are compassionate, friendly, and creative.

Shannon starting to color his dragon mask!

We will be learning lots more about the Chinese New Year as the week progresses!

PBIS Celebrating

On Friday we participated in the school wide PBIS celebration- board game day! We played Disney DVD Bingo and everyone had a great time! A Disney character and number showed up on the TV screen and we marked our cards! It was the perfect game because some students looked at the characters and colors to match and mark their card, while others paid more attention to the numbers.
Here we are in action!

Friday Cooking

Last Friday we had a really great day! In the morning we did our cooking activity. We put a simple twist on the regular pudding recipe. We added 1/2 a cup of peanut butter to the recipe for chocolate pudding. It turned out delicious! It smelled like Reese's peanut butter cups! This was one treat that everyone really enjoyed! Check out the fun...
Anthony kicking off the cooking!
Lorenzo mixing in the peanut butter.
Amaya loved it!

Diego thought it smelled great!

We're featured in the Coop Clips!

Check out the January issue of the Coop Clips! We are featured for our Martin Luther King Jr. celebration. We celebrated with our friends from room 17. They came by to perform songs about Martin Luther King Jr. and then we had cupcakes and sang happy birthday to Dr. King. After the celebration we made Valentine's Day cards to send to the Veterans.

Arctic Floats!

We have started a new weekly routine of getting together with the C.D. Program's room 17 to engage in a fun activity!
This week we had our friends from room 17 come over to make Arctic Floats! Since we have been learning all about the polar regions this treat was perfect! Its a twist on the traditional root beer float, except for our polar treat you take blue Kool-aid, Sprite, and vanilla ice cream. Check out all the fun we had!

This week we're learning about...

Polar Life
We have been learning all about polar life this week and will continue to explore the topic a little deeper next week! We have learned all about animals like polar bears, penguins, seals and the walrus to name a few!

On Tuesday after talking about penguins we practiced our prepositions! Everyone took turns spinning the wheel and landing on a different preposition. You had to place your penguin where the spinner said! We had lots of fun. We also played Arctic Animal Bingo with was great because even the teachers learned some new animals that live in the arctic!
Yesterday we got crafty and made a walrus out of paper plates, paint and raffia! They turned out so very cute!
